Hello fellow readers. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I ended up in my first drug rehab at age 21. Up until that time I had never read a book that wasn't required of me from some school. During my 28 day stay my mother brought me a copy of The Shinning-by Stephen King. I couldn't put the book down. I loved it. Because of that book I have read countless others. Now a little on my authoring history. I ran away from home when I was 14 to attend a three day rock festival (Ozark Mountain Music Festival) in Sedalia Mo. Since I couldn't return home I spent the next four weeks on an adventure that will be included in a book I'm currently working on. I was eventually arrested and shipped back to Chicago. As I relayed my adventure to my friends, one of them mentioned that I should write a book. Yeah right. Up until that point the only thing I knew for sure in English class was what a noun, verb, and adjective were. Years later at 21 I hitchhiked to California. I returned to Chicago two months later and as I was sharing that adventure again it was suggested that I write a book. Yeah sure. I was an alchoholic heroin addict living on the street. As the years went by this suggestion arose time and time again. I got clean at 33. As the fog slowly lifted from my brain I began thinking about the book. Finally a few years later I was seriously considering it but I couldn't come up with the right idea. When the idea did come the chapters began rolling out of me. It took me about 3 years to complete the book but it was truly an amazing experience. I have also written a bunch of short stories which I will share with you from time to time.
A few years ago when the book-A Million Little Pieces by James Frey hit the Oprah book club charts my mother gave me a copy since I'd been through the rehab scene on multiple occasions. After reading a chapter or two I called her up and told her the dude was full of shit. She coaxed me into reading more and again I called her up and said the dude was making it up. Not long after The Smoking Gun broke the story on Frey. I saw right through the B.S. because I've been there. I have 20 years experience. I've seen and done things that most (normal) people only see in movies. Now don't get me wrong. I'm not bragging. I'm only stating the facts. I will never lie to you or make something up to make myself look better. I've been arrested nearly 50 times. I've been picked up for everything from curfew to murder (which I will explain later as no one died). I was shot 4 times (3 in the head and 1 in the shoulder) with a 22 caliber rifle. I've overdosed more times than I can remember, twice being taken to the hospital in an ambulance. The times I can remember when I should have died or came near to death will fill pages. The times I can't remember are lost forever. After reading the Frey book I decided to write my own autobiography. I thought if all those people were interested in his 30 days in rehab then why wouldn't they be interested in my 20 years of drug and alcohol abuse. I am currently working on this project as well as the sequel to May I Have A Ride. Thanks for reading, and until my next post-Peace
